Artist: Luisa Ayala
6" x 8" - Watercolour on paper
Created by Luisa as a way to start a dialogue with Milos island, a place she began to explore after following a route on a map that her father drew a few days before his death. It was his life dream to explore the Greek islands, a dream that became a collective way to tell stories.
In June 2022, these maps were replicated by the artist about 200 times with ’From the Sea’ festival to become a base canvas for the public to write their own stories after experiencing a sensory experience inside and outside the caves of Sarakiniko, Milos.
Later on, these stories were part of an audiovisual project in the headquarters of the festival in Zephyria, Milos.
'THE SEA by SYKIA' | Watercolor | 6” x 8” | 2020
Sea immensity, a place to ask for wishes, the Sea has ears... [It was my birthday during my first dive off a boat by the caves of Sykia, I asked the Sea to bring a new love to my life. The following year my son Milos was born. I’m amazed by how words evolve when they’re spoken to the Sea].

‘CLUES OF LOVE’ | Watercolor | 6” x 8” | 2020
The Goddess of Love 'Venus' in her home land telling invisible messages...[ when I arrived to Milos I realized this is where the sculpture Venus de Milo was found by a farmer digging the land. I felt there was more to be found, so I started to develop a project called Milograma [Letters to Milo] inspired on my father and my son, born the same day.

'DANCER MILOS' | Watercolor | 6” x 8” | 2020
Windy days in Milos and its spontaneous choreographies...[ as I walked along the port when a ferry arrives, the playful dance of fabrics reminds me a good-bye and a welcome feeling, a handy piece of clothe that waves to the horizon saying ‘I will come back’]

'SYRMAS' | Watercolor on paper | 6” x 8” | 2020
Home of boats by sea level, rocks and mountains…an exploration of sequence and repetition of shapes in contrast with tonalities of blue and gradients of a grayscale.

'TRIPITY' | Watercolor on paper | 6” x 8” | 2020
Inspired by the movement of the Sea seen through a fishing net and its resemblance with the pierced mountain walls around Milos used for shelter, lodging and formerly as catacombs among other uses...
